Overview

Session Description:  This webinar is designed to teach behavioral health providers to integrate discussions of sexual functioning and flourishing into brief, integrated behavioral health settings. The presentation will introduce the importance of attending to sexual well-being in behavioral health treatment and provide concrete strategies for providers to implement in their work with clients. 

Presenter Bio: Gil Perez is an AASECT certified sex therapist and an award-winning tenured faculty Personal Counselor at College of San Mateo. He provides mental services to students, consultation to colleagues, and teaches counseling courses. He oversees the Mental Health Peer Educator program and is the chapter advisor for Active Minds. He served on the California Community Colleges LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee composed of influential community college leaders across the state aimed at establishing equitable support to achieve LGBTQ+ student success. By advocating for the expansion of LGBTQ+ resources, Gil proudly established the Safe Zone Alliance and Trans Community at College of San Mateo. He is currently a PhD student in Human Sexuality at California Institute of Integral Studies and has a private practice where he specializes in sex therapy.

Learning Objectives: After completing this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the connection between sexual well-being and mental health.
  • Outline two approaches to integrating sex therapy into primary care and behavioral health settings.
  • Apply two interventions to support sexual well-being in integrated behavioral health settings
