Identifying Ableism in Integrated Behavioral Healthcare

Presenter Bio:
Nicole Bohn is the Director of the San Francisco Mayor’s Office on Disability. In her role, she works to oversee ADA compliance and ensure physical, electronic and programmatic accessibility of all City and County funded programs and services, and to connect people with disabilities and their families to local resources and support. Her office also supports and advises the San Francisco Mayor's Disability Council and their monthly public hearings. Currently, the primary mission of the Mayor's Office on Disability also involves being responsive to disability community needs related to COVID response and recovery. She began her professional career in 1997 providing crisis intervention and reasonable accommodation counseling services for individuals with disabilities. She worked at the University of San Francisco from 1997 to 2008, during which time she was progressively responsible for managing and overseeing the University’s reasonable accommodation program and policies. From 2008-2017, Ms. Bohn served as the Director of the Disability Programs and Resource Center at San Francisco State University, leading and coordinating centralized compliance efforts for the campus. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin; and a Master of Arts in Counseling and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing from the University of San Francisco.
Description: Using our nationwide pandemic response as a framework, this webinar will introduce key constructs essential to understanding the intersection of disability and ableism, demonstrate how ableism may manifest in the IBH setting, and discuss strategies for enacting anti-ableist integrated behavioral healthcare.
Learning Objectives:
- LO1: Define ableism and demonstrate how disability-related constructs influence our understanding
- LO2: Identify at least three ableist structures or processes within integrated care settings
- LO3: Describe anti-ableist strategies, structures, and processes to enact in the IBH setting
