Overview
Brief Description
This workshop will cover an overview of California’s public healthcare system and the Medi-Cal Managed Care landscape for behavioral health. An introduction to Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and the values and challenges of an Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) model.
Learning Objectives
LO 1: Participants will describe the key structural and functional components of our public healthcare system, with a focus on Medi-Cal Managed Care
LO 2: Participants will describe key elements of FQHCs and how they incorporate culturally responsive care
LO 3: Participants will describe the key elements of an IBH model and the values and challenges of IBH
Presenter Information
Samira Pingali is the Director of Behavioral Health at Community Health Center Network where she supports eight community health centers around the East Bay to enhance behavioral health (BH) programs and advocacy. Specifically, Samira leads strategic initiatives to integrate BH within primary care, addiction services, and community resources. Samira is particularly passionate about increasing pediatric and adolescent access to behavioral healthcare, with an emphasis on prevention and early intervention. More recently, Samira has focused on addressing the mental health needs of people involved in the criminal justice system. Samira received her MPH from Columbia University, where she specialized in research design and methodology.
